The fundamentals of sprite rendering in Maya
The 26-minute Maya tutorial deals with the subject of sprite rendering of particles, an incredibly efficient and(more) powerful method for designing effects. When particles are set to sprites, an image or sequence (with transparency) can be mapped onto the individual particles. As any image can be used, the possibilities are almost endless: snowflakes, optiFX, smoke, fog, dust, fire, splashes, flying birds, dust hits, and so on. Shader set-up and managing PP attributes (spriteNum, spriteScale, spriteTwist, lighting) are also discussed in the tutorial.
